Motion filed in court seeking five-judge panel for case on MR

A motion has been filed before the?Supreme Court requesting the appointment of a five-judge bench to hear the?appeal filed against a court order restraining Mahinda Rajapaksa from holding office of Prime Minister and his Cabinet from functioning.

Lawyers appearing on behalf of United National Party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe filed the motion at the Supreme Court.

The Court of Appeal had issued the restraining order on Mahinda Rajapaksa from holding office of Prime Minister and his Cabinet from functioning.

An appeal was later filed in the?Supreme Court against the?Court of Appeal order and the?Supreme Court is to hear the case tomorrow (December 14th).

Considering the significance of the case, Wickremesinghe’s lawyers have requested the?Supreme Court to appoint a five?five-judge bench to hear the case. (Colombo Gazette)

Sri Lanka to brief UNHRC during high-level segment
