Speaker accepts Premadasa as Opposition Leader

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya says he has accepted the nomination of Parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa as the Opposition Leader.
In a statement this evening, the Speaker said that he will make a formal announcement when Parliament convenes next month.
The Speaker said that he had received a letter from the General Secretary of the United National Party (UNP) stating that Premadasa had been nominated as the Opposition Leader.
Parliament will convene again on 3 January 2020 during which President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will make his maiden Parliament speech.
Following the speech by the President the Speaker said that a formal announcement will be made on the appointment of the new Opposition Leader. (Colombo Gazette)
