Battle in UNP for party leadership post continues

The United National Party (UNP) says it has not yet resolved the party leadership issue and hopes it will be resolved soon.

UNP Parliamentarian Harin Fernando said that a majority of the UNP members have said they will support Sajith Premadasa as the party leader.

They have also called for Premadasa to be appointed as the Leader of the Opposition.

Fernando said that he hopes the issue does not continue to drag and that it will be resolved soon.

Harin Fernando also denied reports that senior party member Karu Jayasuriya has been proposed to be named UNP leader.

Fernando said that the UNP hopes to come out strong in January after resolving its issues.

Heroin found inside bag of a foreigner in Dehiwala house

Heroin had been found inside a bag of a foreigner at a house in Dehiwala, the Police said. The Police said that the heroin had been found when the Police conducted a raid on the house located at Terrence Avenue. The Police recovered 886 grams of heroin from the bag. (Colombo Gazette)
