Government unaware of incident involving Swiss Embassy official

The Government says it is unaware of an alleged incident involving a Swiss Embassy official.

There were reports that a Swiss Embassy official had been detained by investigators to be questioned over a Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officer who fled the country.

When asked about it at the post cabinet press conference today Minister of Information and Communications Technology and Technology and Innovations Bandula Gunawardane said that the Government was unaware of such an incident and that the Police will look into it.

It was reported that the Swiss Embassy official had been detained to be questioned over IP Nishantha Silva, who fled to Switzerland with his family.

Facing threats following a change of Government CID Inspector of Police (IP) Nishantha Silva fled to Switzerland with his family.

The Director of the CID had later been instructed to launch an inquiry into Silva after he fled the country.
