Presidential Commission issues summons to PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has been summoned to appear before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCOI) investigating fraud and corruption.

The PCOI has summoned the Prime Minister to appear on September 12 (Thursday) at 9.30am.

He has been asked to appear to give evidence on a complaint regarding the Agriculture Ministry’s building.

The Government has been accused of corruption when purchasing a new building for the Agriculture Ministry.

The Agriculture Ministry had vacated the Battaramulla building in 2015 after the Prime Minister had put forward a cabinet proposal to use the building for the activities of 17 Parliamentary Sectoral Oversight Committees.

As a result the Ministry later purchased a new building by paying a monthly rent of Rs 21.5 million.

Criminal probe over plot to disrupt fuel distribution

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has launched an investigation into an alleged attempt to disrupt fuel distribution in Sri Lanka. Mahinda busted the most amount of money on overseas trips

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa busted the most amount of money on overseas visits when he was President between 2010 and 2014.
