Election Commission member’s resignation accepted

The resignation letter of Election Commission member Mrs. P. S. M. Charles has been accepted by President Ranil Wickremesinghe. The President?s Media Division (PMD) said that President?s Secretary Saman Ekanayake has informed Charles that her resignation letter has been accepted. The resignation comes as the Election Commission prepares to conduct the Local Government (LG) elections. The Government had already opposed the holding of the LG elections at this moment. Couple remanded over Pelawatte businessman’s death

A couple arrested over the death of a businessman in Pelawatte, have been remanded until 15 February. The 23-year-old female and a 27-year-old male were arrested by the Kandana Police on Sunday. The body of the 49-year-old businessman, identified as Roshan Wanninayake, was found recently in the swimming pool of his three-storied building which is under construction in Pelawatte, Thalangama. Vedda community to contest elections

The Vedda community has decided to contest the elections as an independent group. Vedda chief Uruwarige Wannila Aththo said that they will not join hands with any political party.
