Prime Minister removed from top post at Kelaniya Temple

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has been removed from a top post at the Kelaniya Temple.

A proposal had been submitted to remove Wickremesinghe as the Chairman of the Dayaka Sabhawa of the Kelaniya Rajama Viharaya.

The proposal was adopted by a majority vote on the basis that he was not doing enough for the temple.

It was decided that a more suitable person must be appointed to the position.

Nine arrested after Navy intercepts foreign vessel with heroin

The Sri Lanka Navy has arrested nine people who were on a foreign vessel in which 60kg of narcotics was found. The vessel was intercepted off the Galle Harbour. The Navy said the vessel did not have a flag of any state or registration markings.

FR case against Hemasiri and IGP postponed to July 25

The Supreme Court today postponed the case on the Fundamental Rights (FR) petition filed against IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando to July 25. A seven judge bench began considering the Fundamental Rights petition today. The petition was filed accusing them of failing in their duties to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks. The Attorney General’s Department said that it will not represent Jayasundara or Fernando in the case.

NTJ Colombo District Organizer granted bail

National Thowheed Jamath (NTJ) Colombo District Organizer Mohamed Farouk Mohamed Fawaz was granted bail today by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court. He was produced in court today and the court ordered that he be granted bail. Mohamed Farouk Mohamed Fawaz was being investigated over his alleged links to the Easter Sunday attacks.
