Ex LTTE member Praba arrested by the TID in Batticaloa

Former?LTTE member Krishnapillai Kalainesan alias Praba was arrested by the police Terrorist Investigations Division (TID) in Batticaloa today. Krishnapillai Kalainesan had been released into society after being rehabilitated but became the latest former LTTE member to be arrested recently. The arrest comes as the Government assured that any attempt by the LTTE to regroup in Sri Lanka will be thwarted. (Colombo Gazette)

New 15 percent VAT exempted from several items including fuel

The new 15 percent VAT has been exempted from several items including fuel, the Ministry of Finance said today. VAT is being increased from 11 percent to 15 percent with effect from today but several essential items have been exempted from the list. Among the items exempted are petrol and diesel and aviation fuel as well as wheat, rice, milk powder, mobile phones and healthcare services and education. (Colombo Gazette)
