UN raises concerns over two Bills in Sri Lanka

The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has raised?serious concerns over two bills under consideration in the Sri Lankan Parliament – the revised Anti-Terrorism Bill and the Online Safety Bill. IGP C.D. Wickramaratne granted another service extension

Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickramaratne has been granted another service extension by President Ranil Wickremesinghe. Wickramaratne has been granted another service extension of three weeks. The current IGP was to retire from service?on 26 March 2023 but his tenure was extended by three months by the President. Harin and Manusha’s Parliament seats in the balance

The Parliament seats of Ministers Harin Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara are hanging in the balance with the Supreme Court commencing hearings today into the decision taken by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) to sack them. The two Ministers had challenged the decision taken by the SJB to remove them from the party and disqualify them of their Parliamentary seats.
