UNP considers ‘National Government” to expand cabinet

The United National Party (UNP) is considering forming a ‘National Government’ to expand the cabinet, Minister Vajira Abeywardana said today.

Abeywardana said that while only a few Ministers were appointed today, more will be appointed soon.

He said that the UNP is considering forming a ‘National Government’ with its alliance partners to expand the cabinet.

According to the Constitution the cabinet must be limited to 30 but can be expanded if a?National Government is formed.

The United National Front (UNF) had formed a?National Government with the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) in 2015.

However the UPFA withdrew from the?National Government last October.

Abeywardana said that the UNP is now considering forming a?National Government with some of its alliance partners in the UNF. (Colombo Gazette)
