President ready to change provisions in 19th Amendment

President Maithripala Sirisena says he is prepared to make changes to some provisions in the 19th Amendment.

He says he is ready to make the changes in order to resolve certain issues.

The President’s Media Division said that in January 2015, Maithripala Sirisena assumed office as the President and later ensured the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was passed in Parliament.

Sirisena noted that the?19th Amendment to the Constitution brought several posituve changes to the country.

However, he noted that if there are procedural weaknesses in the 19th Amendment he is ready to amend it through Parliament. (Colombo Gazette)
