Government insists it is legal and continues its work

The Government today insisted that it is a legally appointed Government and continues its work uninterrupted.

Cabinet co-spokesman Mahinda Samarasinghe said that claims the cabinet is illegal is being used purely for political gain.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya ruled in Parliament recently that he will not recognise the cabinet as newly appointed Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa lost a no-confidence vote in Parliament.

“The cabinet is meeting, portfolios have been gazetted and departments are operating,” Samarasinghe said.

Samarasinghe said the appointment of the new cabinet has not been challenged in court.

The cabinet co-spokesman also said that the Government recognises Tamil National Alliance leader R. Sampanthan as the opposition leader.?(Colombo Gazette)

PCR tests conducted on Parliament staff and MPs

PCR tests were conducted on staff and Parliamentarians at the Parliamentary Complex today. The Communications Department of the Parliament said PCR tests were conducted on 463 individuals. The Department said 15 Parliamentarians, including the Speaker were among the individuals subjected to PCR tests. Myanmar ups the ante on fencing along China border as Wang Yi visits Yangon
