Trial-at-bar to hear case on six accused over Easter attacks

A trial-at-bar is to be appointed to hear the case against six accused in the Easter Sunday attacks, including Zahran Hashim.

Attorney General (AG) Dappula de Livera today requested the Chief Justice to appoint the trial-at-bar in this regard.

The AG also filed indictments at the Puttalam High Court against the six suspects under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and Terrorist Financing Act.

The indictments have been filed over the collection of explosives and maintaining an explosive manufacturing base in Wanathawilluwa in January 2019.

The trial-at-bar will be appointed to try Mohammed Mufees, Mohammed Hamas, Ibrahim Mohammed Naufar, Mohammed Sajid, Ibrahim Sadeeq Abdullah and Gaffoor Mama.

Deceased Easter attacks ring leader Zahran Hashim and bomber Mohammed Hasthun are also among the suspects named to be tried by the trial-at-bar.
