Amended no-confidence motion to be submitted tomorrow

An amended no-confidence motion on Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and the cabinet is to to be submitted to Parliament tomorrow.

President Maithripala Sirisena had requested the United National Front (UNF) to amend the original motion and resubmit it to Parliament.

The original motion refers to the gazette notice issued by the President on October 26th so the President sought an amendment to remove that part.

The President had also requested that the vote on the no-confidence motion be called by name of the MP and not by voice as was carried out yesterday.

He made the request when he met party leaders in the UNF, the leader of the opposition R. Sampanthan and Speaker Karu Jayasuriya at the Presidential Secretariat this evening.

The President also requested the delegation to ensure the peace is maintained in Parliament. (Colombo Gazette)

Another patient attempts to escape from IDH

Another patient had attempted to escape from the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) in Angoda. Police spokesman, Deputy Inspector General (IGP) Ajith Rohana said that the patient had attempted to escape last evening but was arrested. Over 320 Sri Lankans return from overseas

Over 320 Sri Lankans, including migrant workers who were stranded overseas due to the coronavirus pandemic, arrived in Sri Lanka this morning. The National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPC) said that twenty-five Sri Lankans arrived from Doha in Qatar and two from Japan. A total of 295 Sri Lankan migrant workers who were stranded in Kuwait were repatriated via a special flight today.
