Police raid two brothels in Seeduwa and Katana

The Police raided two brothels operating in Seeduwa and Katana and arrested sex workers employed at both locations. The Police said that a brothel operating as an Ayurveda Spa was raided in Seeduwa after obtaining a court order. Following the raid the Police arrested the manager of the Spa and a woman engaged in the sex trade. Passenger arrested at BIA attempting to smuggle cigarettes

A Sri Lankan passenger (40) has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport for attempting to smuggle in Rs 1.6 million of cigarettes. The suspect, a resident of Negombo, had arrived at the Katunayake airport from Kuwait and in his possession 135 cartons of cigarettes (27,000 sticks) valued at Rs 1,620,000. The detection and arrest was made by Customs officers attached to the BIA. The suspect has been released on a penalty of Rs 25,000 and the cigarette haul being confiscated.
