Jaffna students boycott classes, TNA to protest

Jaffna university students have decided to boycott classes both today and tomorrow over the clashes with the police and army over the LTTE “heroes day” ceremonies. UN delegation visits final battle zone

A visiting UN delegation visited the final battle zone in Mullivaikal yesterday and had discussions with families resettled in the area. Senior Political Affairs Officer in the Department of Political affairs at the UN,?Hitoki Den, who is in Sri Lanka, discussed the concerns of the people in the area. Speaker gets tough with SC

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa says no outside body can dictate terms to him, parliament or any?committee appointed by him. The Speaker said this in response to petitions filed in the Supreme Court (SC) against the Parliament Select Committee (PSC) appointed by him to look into the motion to impeach Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake. The Supreme Court had issued summons to the PSC members but the Speaker said that the court has no authority to issue notice to the legislator.
