Cops attached to Ingiriya Police arrested for assaulting suspect

Three policemen attached to the?Ingiriya Police station have been arrested for assaulting a suspect.

According to the Police media unit, the policemen had been on duty in?Ingiriya last night and had stopped two youth to search them.

The policemen had then assaulted the youth.

A tense situation arose at the?Ingiriya Police station with residents and family members of the two youth alleging that the three policemen were drunk at the time.

The two youth had been admitted to hospital following the assault and residents demanded that the policemen be arrested.

A Police complaint was also later lodged against the policemen over the assault.

The Police media unit said that the three policemen have been interdicted and an investigation was launched.?(Colombo Gazette)
