Jaffna Army briefs UN Rapporteur on security related issues

The Army in Jaffna says it briefed the visiting United Nations Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues Ms Rita Izsak-Ndiaye on security related issues.

Izsak-Ndiaye and two other delegates during their visit to the Northern Province, had a cordial meeting with the Commander of the Security Force in Jaffna Major General Mahesh Senanayaka at Security Forces Headquarters in?Palaly.

The Commander extended warm welcome to the visiting diplomats and explained the present situation of the Jaffna Peninsula.

During the meeting the Commander the diplomats on?security related issue as well prevention of smuggling, drug trafficking, human trafficking, etc.

The Commander also briefed the UN official on?the reconciliation mechanisms which the security forces are involved in to uplift the livelihood of the people in Jaffna.

After a cordial dialogue, the Commander presented mementoes to the delegation as a token of friendship.

The UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues Ms Rita Izsak-Ndiaye placed her signature on the visitors? book to mark her memorable visit before leaving. (Colombo Gazette)

Gotabaya Rajapaksa acquitted in museum case

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was acquitted in the D.A. Rajapaksa Museum case today as a result of the Presidential immunity he enjoys. The Permanent Special High Court ordered the release of Rajapaksa, who was accused of misappropriating Government funds for the construction of the museum. The court also ordered that President Rajapaksa’s passport be released. President Rajapaksa was accused of misappropriating Government funds when he was the Defence Secretary.
