One killed as illegal gem mine collapses in Niwitigala

One person was killed after an illegal gem mine collapsed in Niwitigala today, the Police said. The Police said the victim is a 34 year old father of two. The victim was identified as Prasanna Sirisena. Another person was injured in the incident and was admitted to hospital. The gem mine had been dug in the garden of a house and it was 35 feet deep. The Police said there were three people in the mine at the time it collapsed. (Colombo Gazette)
