Licence of renowned liquor manufacturer withdrawn

The licence of a renowned liquor manufacturer has been withdrawn as the company had failed to pay taxes.

The Department of Excise said that the?license of W.M.Mendis Company had been withdrawn.

As a result the production of liquor at the company has been suspended.

W.M.Mendis?&?Co. Ltd. is among the most renowned liquor manufacturers in Sri Lanka.

It was a pioneer in the industry, and still ranks as one of the largest distillers. reputation for a wide variety of products, which comprises of pure coconut arrack, old arrack, blended arrack and foreign liquor.

W.M.Mendis?&?Co. Ltd is owned by Arjun Aloysius, the head of Perpetual Treasuries Limited who is currently in remand over the treasury bond scam. (Colombo Gazette)
