The department of meteorology has warned the public to take precautions to?minimize the damages caused by lightning activities which could accompany heavy rain today. It said that showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces today. Showers may extend to the Puttalam and Kurunegala districts too. Legal action over Port fire

The government says legal action will be taken against a private company whose cargo led to the fire at the Colombo Port recently. Minister of Ports and Highways, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, said that hazardous items which were among the cargo had caused the fire. Over 40 students suspended

Over 40 students of the Sabaragamuwa University have been suspended over the protests which took place over the weekend. The students were among those who blocked the main road disrupting traffic and resulting in the police using tear-gas to disperse them.
