Health Ministry launches lightning dengue eradication program

The Ministry of Health today launched a lightning dengue eradication program as the number of dengue patients rose to over 18,000 with 24 people reported dead. According to the Ministry of Health, the army, police and health officials will be deployed from today to take action against dengue breeding grounds. Measures will be taken to eliminate dengue mosquito breeding grounds and file legal action against the owners of property where dengue mosquito breeding grounds are found. Colombo, Kolon

Court orders police to release body of Somawansa Amarasinghe

The Court today ordered the police to release the body of former Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) leader Somawansa Amarasinghe. The police was told to hand over the body to?Somawansa Amarasinghe’s relatives for funeral proceedings to be carried out. The police had earlier refused to release the body pending an investigation over his death. (Colombo Gazette)
