Journalists, media group file police complaints on each other

A group of journalists and a media organisation linked to a top Government politician have filed police complaints against each other.
The?journalists attached to the Irudina newspaper filed the complaint at the Mount Lavinia police station alleging they had been arbitrarily locked out of office.
The management of the Irudina newspaper filed a complaint at the Mount Lavinia police station saying the journalists had threatened other journalists at the newspaper.
The issue arose after the Editor of the?Irudina newspaper, Wimalanath Weeraratne was sacked without any written explanation.
Weeraratne was however informed verbally that he was removed as he had no control over some of the articles published in the newspaper.
The Editor was accused by the management of publishing several articles critical of the Government.
Several media rights groups and civil society condemned the removal of?Wimalanath Weeraratne as Editor without following due process. (Colombo Gazette)
