BASL postpones elections over dispute on judge

The BAR Association has postponed the elections scheduled to be held tomorrow owing to a dispute on the appointment of a High Court judge.

The dispute arose over the appointment of?Ramanathan Kannan of a private bar as a High Court judge.

The Judicial Service Association of Sri Lanka had claimed that President Maithripala Sirisena had given the?attorney a direct appointment as a High Court Judge, which it said was a violation of the Constitution and judicial service tradition. (Colombo Gazette)

Overseas travel ban imposed on GGG activists

An overseas travel ban has been imposed on a group of Gota Go Gama (GGG) activists. The Colombo Fort Magistrate?s Court imposed the overseas travel bans Joseph Stalin, Rev. Fr. Jeewantha Peiris, Wasantha Mudalige, Lahiru Weerasekera and Eranga Gunasekera. The travel ban was imposed over allegations of damaging public property and unlawful assembly in front of the Police Headquarters.
