Slain journalist Lasantha Wickremetunga had told his family that the MiG deal expos? could harm his life.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) told court today that?Wickremetunga’s family had told the CID that?Wickremetunga feared his life could be under threat over the MiG deal story.
The CID presented facts over the case to the Mount Lavinia Magistrate today.
The case is to be taken up for hearing once again on March 20.
Wickremetunga had exposed the controversial deal surrounding the purchase of MIG aircraft when the former Government was in power.
The purchase of four MiG-27 aircraft in 2006 at a cost of US$ 2.462 million each?and the procedure followed in relation to the purchase had been clouded in mystery.
The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) on behalf of the Government had signed an agreement with Ukrinmash (a Ukranian company) for the supply of four MIG-27 aircraft as well as the overhauling of four existing SLAF MiG-27 aircraft.
Current Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera and Sripathi Sooriyaarachchi, two key ministers, who broke away from the then Mahinda Rajapaksa led Government, filed a complaint later with the Bribery Commission alleging corruption in the deal. (Colombo Gazette)
