Main suspect in Matara shooting shot dead in Police custody

The main suspect in the Matara shooting incident was shot dead while in Police custody, the Police said today.

The Police claimed that?Chamara Indrajith was shot dead when he attempted to throw a grenade at the Police while in Police custody.

The suspect, who?was arrested in connection to the shooting incident in Matara yesterday where a policeman was killed, had reportedly accompanied the Police to recover a hidden bag of clothes when he had allegedly thrown the grenade towards the Police.

The Police had opened fire killing the suspect.

Similar incidents had been reported in the past where the Police had claimed to have killed suspects in Police custody when they had attempted to attack the Police using hidden weapons or grenades.?(Colombo Gazette)
