Fine increased for buses operating without valid permit

The fine for passenger buses operating without a valid permit has been increased from?Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 200,000.

The Government said that there was a need to tighten laws against persons who run buses without a valid passenger service license.

As a result the cabinet has approved the increasing of the minimum fine charged by a Magistrate’s Court from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 200,000 for running a bus without the valid passenger service permit.

A proposal made by Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, to present the National Transport Commission (Amendment) Bill in Parliament drafted for providing provisions to increase the fine was approved by the cabinet. (Colombo Gazette)
