Over 100 mm of rain is expected in several areas today, the Department of Meteorology said.

It said that sue to the active cloudiness in the Southern sea area, there is a possibility of heavy showers and sudden roughness of the sea areas associated with sudden increase of wind speeds (up to 70-80kmph) over the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Pottuvil via Galle and Hambantota.

Naval and fishing communities have been requested to be vigilant in this regard.

Heavy showers (more than 100 mm ) are expected at some places in the Southern, Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces.
