Over 10,400 army deserters appear before regimental headquarters

Over 10,400 army deserters?have presented themselves to their respective regimental headquarters to seek legal discharge under a?general amnesty?declared by the Ministry of Defence.
The general amnesty period for army absentees, declared by Ministry of Defence under the ongoing de-listing programme would continue until 12 July 2016, enabling more and more absentees to receive their legal discharge directly from their respective regimental headquarters or their last duty locations within a day, if all necessary documents are in order, according to the Adjutant General Branch of the Army.
The general amnesty period for all tri service absentees came into effect on 13 June 2016 and the army had been able to give legal discharge to a total of 10,417 Army personnel by this?evening through the respective army formations across the island, the army media unit said.
Those absent without leave for more than 3 months or those absent without leave for less than three months but more than 21 days or those absent without leave at all or those absent without leave having involved in criminal actions or those who went absent after sustaining injuries in terrorist attacks are eligible to receive legal discharge upon production of their service identity card, national identity card, a photocopy of the bank account before 12 July 2016 on arrival at those respective locations.
