Cabinet approves extension of port city agreement for 6 months

The Cabinet has approved the extension of the agreement on the Port City project for six months, the Government said.

The project was suspended from February 2015 over?environmental issues and a comprehensive environmental impact assessment was later sought.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Management had recommended allowing resumption of the project subject to limitations and conditions stipulated in the EIA report.

Accordingly, a?proposal made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, to extend the project agreement for a further period of six months from 15 March 2016, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers. (Colombo Gazette)

Comedian Berty Gunathilake passed away aged 97

Sri Lankan comedian and veteran actor Berty Gunathilake passed away today aged 97. He was most notable for the role “Baba” in the television comedy sitcom Vinoda Samaya. Gunathilake joined the Radio Ceylon in 1947. Then he joined the 1948 radio play Vinoda Samaya along with Joseph Seneviratne, Vincent Weerasekera, Harriet Suraweera, Pitipana Silva and Sisira Kumara Manickaarachchi.
