EU and Lanka hold talks in Brussels on GSP+

The European Union (EU) and Sri Lankan authorities were to meet in Brussels today to discuss the GSP plus trade concession.

Deputy Foreign Minister Dr. Harsha de Silva said that the meeting today is part of efforts Sri Lanka is taking to regain GSP plus from the EU.

He told Parliament the Government is confident of obtaining GSP plus next year.

Any successful application for GSP Plus requires?compliance with 27 International Conventions, including the International Covenant on Civil?and Political Rights (ICCPR), the Convention Against Torture and the Convention on the?Rights of the Child. Sri Lanka has signed and ratified all these conventions.?(Colombo Gazette)

Tamil Nadu protests escalation in arrest of fishermen by Lanka
