Liquor bottles to carry sticker of approval

The Government has prepared a programme to paste a sticker in each legally manufactured bottle of liquor?under the supervision of the Department of Excise, and to paste the sticker for imported bottles of liquor before releasing from the customs, Cabinet Spokesperson Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said at the weekly Cabinet briefing held at the Government Information Department today.

He said that as the government has imposed a large tax over liquor, illegally bottled liquor seem to enter into the market. Under these circumstance many customers drink unhealthy liquor.

The Minister also said that?illegally imported liquor has had an impact on Governments revenue.

The proposal submitted to the Cabinet by the Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake on this has been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.

Nepalese girls being trafficked to Lanka rescued

Police in Chitwan, Nepal have rescued five girls from Narayanghat suspecting that they were being trafficked to Sri Lanka. The Himalayan Times reported that the five girls were being trafficked to Sri Lanka via India.
