Parliament approves civil society CC nominees

Parliament today approved the civil society nominees proposed to the Constitutional Council (CC).

Dr A T?Ariyaratne, Shibly Aziz and Dr Radhika Kumaraswamy were earlier?nominated as the civil society representatives to the Constitutional Council (CC).

Dr. Ariyaratne is the founder and president of the Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement in Sri Lanka.

Shibly Aziz is a well-known and eminent President?s Counsel who has contributed extensively to the development of the legal system in the country from on or about 1968.

Dr. Radhika Coomaraswamy was the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict until 13 July 2012.

Coomaraswamy, a lawyer by training, was also formerly the Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission.(Colombo Gazette)
