MR, Upeksha appear before Presidential Commission

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and former Parliamentarian Upeksha Swarnamali appeared before the Presidential Commission on large scale fraud today.

Rajapaksa and?Swarnamali were summoned to make statements over allegations related to large scale fraud at State institutions committed during the forger regime.

The former President was questioned over the alleged failure to pay State owned ITN for advertisements promoting Rajapaksa during the last Presidential election.

Swarnamali was questioned in relation to investigations being conducted over Srilankan Airlines.

Passengers heading to SL stopped

Fifty passengers were yesterday stopped at Chennai from boarding a Jet Airways flight to Colombo after customs officials found them carrying commercial goods, but travelling on a tourist visa, the Deccan Chronicle reported. Two bodies at Kayts

Two bodies were found in Velanai at Kayts today, the police said. According to the police the bodies of a man and woman had been found in the area. Further investigations are underway to identify the two bodies. (Colombo Gazette)

Ten ex PSD officers jailed

The Panadura High Court today sentenced to jail 10 former Presidential Security Division (PSD) officers over their involvement in the harassment of popular singers Rukantha Gunatillaka and Chandralekha Perera several years ago.
