Permits provided for vehicles transporting essential goods

The Police have been instructed to provide permits to vehicles transporting essential consumer goods and vegetables to economic centres during the islandwide Police curfew currently in effect due to the covid-19 outbreak in Sri Lanka.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa instructed the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chandana Wickremeratne in this regard today.
The Prime Minister?s (PM) Office said the decision was taken as part of government efforts to provide essential goods to the public under lockdown due to the curfew.
Issuing a press release, the PM?s Office said there were reports of vehicles transporting essential goods to economic centres, including the Manning Market, facing certain obstacles due to the curfew.
Keeping this in mind, the PM has instructed the Police to provide permits to these vehicles to transport essential goods from vendors to the economic centres without any hindrance, it added.
The Prime Minister?s Office further said PM Rajapaksa has urged the public to cooperate with the government?s efforts to curtail the spread of Covid-19 in Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
