Another suspect arrested over Seya’s rape, murder

The police have arrested a fourth suspect over the rape and murder of?4 1/2 year old Seya Sadewmini in Kotadeniyawa.

According to the police, a court order has been obtained to detain the suspect for 72 hours?to be questioned.

A third suspect arrested recently?over the murder of the child?had confessed to the killing.?The suspect, identified as 33 year old Dinesh Priyashantha, was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Gampaha.

Two others arrested earlier, including a 17 year old boy, were released after DNA tests found they were not directly involved in the rape and murder of the child.

The 17 year old boy has later complained that he was tortured while he was in police custody. (Colombo Gazette)

Over 1600 refugees returned

With monetary aid from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), more than 1,600 Sri Lankan Tamils living in Tamil Nadu as refugees have returned to their country so far since January 2012.
