Suresh, Anandi, Gajan and Sivaji push UNHRC

A group of Tamil politicians attending the discussion on Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva today, called on the Council to push for justice for the victims of the war.

Tamil National Alliance members Suresh Premachandran, Anandi Saseetharan and M.K. Sivajilingham expressed disappointment with the efforts of the new Government in addressing accountability.

Northern politician Gajen Ponnambalam also spoke at the discussion as did several?NGOs and Permanent Representatives of foreign Governments.?(Colombo Gazette)

Lane rules to be strictly enforced

Lane rules to be strictly enforced in future, the Police warned today. The Police said that a two week grace period will be given from tomorrow for motorists to follow the lane rules. Police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera said that after two weeks the lane rules will be strictly enforced. He said that undercover policemen will video motorists violating the lane rules. CID investigates allegations against Rishad and Hizbullah

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is investigating allegations made against Minister Rishad Bathiudeen and Eastern Province Governor A.L.A.M. Hizbullah. Police media spokesman Ruwan Gunsekera said that two complaints had been made at the Police headquarters against Bathiudeen and Hizbullah. Minister Rishad Bathiudeen has been accused of being involved with the bombers who carried out the Easter Sunday attacks. The Minister however has rejected the allegations. (Colombo Gazette)
