President Sirisena calls on the SLFP to unite

President Maithripala Sirisena today urged the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) to unite to rebuild the country and also prepare to face the next election.

Speaking at the 64^th Anniversary of the SLFP held in Pollonaruwa, Sirisena said that he will not go back on the journey which he started following the January 8 Parliamentary election.

Several senior SLFP members including former President Mahinda Rajapaksa attended the anniversary event.

President Sirisena, as chairman of the SLFP, thanked Rajapaksa for attending the event and also noted the role he played to defeat terrorism.

The President said that while the country had seen progress under SLFP and United National Party (UNP) Governments, the public had lost faith in politicians owing to a poor political culture.

Bread price hike reversed by bakery owners

Bakery owners have reversed the recent price increase of a loaf of bread after the price of wheat flour was reduced. The Bakery Owners? Association said that the price of a loaf of bread will remain as earlier and the recent increase?by Rs. 2 will not be carried forward. The decision to reduce the price of a loaf of bread was taken after an increase in the price of wheat flour was reversed.

Two killed, two others injured as train rams into van

Two people were killed and two others sustained injuries after a train crashed into a van in Ambalangoda. The Police said that the accident occurred at the Kandegoda rail crossing in Ambalangoda. The victims were a 50 year old woman and her 23 year old son. The woman’s husband and another son sustained injuries in the accident.
