Uthayan Jaffna office set on fire

The Uthayan Jaffna office was attacked and the printing press set on fire by an unidentified group this morning. According to the newspaper staff, the office at Kasthuriyar road was attacked at around 4.45 this morning. The staff was preparing to distribute the newspapers when an armed gang entered the premises and threatened the staff before moving into the printing press. Four SLT employees arrested

The police have arrested four Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) employees fo stealing cables belonging to the company. According to the police media unit, the four employees had been arrested after they stole the cables in Wadduwa. The four men had claimed they were heading to Wadduwa from Panadura to fix SLT telecom lines but had instead stolen the cables. The four suspects are residents of Kalutara and Panadura. Sri Lankan killed in England

A Sri Lankan owner of a shop in Bedford, England has been killed after being assaulted, the Bedfordshire news reported. Vairamuthu Thiyagarajah, 56, received serious head injuries in the incident last Sunday and he succumbed to his injuries in hospital two days ago. Thiyagarajah died with his family at his bedside.
