Court issues order against Gota’s arrest

The Supreme Court (SC) has issued an order against arresting former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa until a petition filed by him is heard.

Rajapaksa had filed a?fundamental rights petition against the special police unit investigating allegations of serious financial crimes.

Earlier today, Supreme Court Judge Buwanaka Aluvihare withdrew?from the bench hearing the fundamental rights petition filed by the former Defence Secretary.

As a result the three member bench set to hear the case will now be two members, namely Justice Eva Wannasundara and Justice Sarath de Abrew.?(Colombo Gazette)

Singer Amal Perera released

Singer Amal Perera has been released after being questioned by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). Perera and five others who were arrested in Dubai had been deported to Sri Lanka on Monday night. They were detained by the CID when they arrived in Sri Lanka and taken in for questioning.
