Supreme Court judge Nalin Perera sworn in as new Chief Justice

Senior Supreme Court Justice Nalin Perera took oaths as the new Chief Justice before President Maithripala Sirisena at the President?s Official Residence, today. He was nominated by President Maithripala Sirisena to the Constitutional Council for post of Chief Justice on the retirement of Justice Priyasath Depp. Nalin Perera joined the judicial service as a magistrate and was gradually promoted to a Supreme Court judge.

Woman hacked to death in Ja-Ela

A woman was hacked to death in Rajamawatha-Kanuwana in Ja-Ela this evening, the Police said. The Police said that the woman had been killed while she was walking along the street. The Police identified the victim as?60 year old Indra Pauleen de Silva Wickrematilake.

India and Sri Lanka sign MoU for construction of 1200 houses

India and Sri Lanka signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) today for the construction of 1200 houses through 50 model villages, using Indian grant assistance of SLR 600 million.
