Rajitha questions Police delay to arrest BBS General Secretary

Cabinet spokesman Dr Rajitha Senaratne today questioned the delay by the Police to arrest the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), the Venerable?Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero.

Senaratne said that it is clear?Gnanasara Thero is behind some of the latest incidents targeting Muslims.

The cabinet spokesman said that Gnanasara Thero cannot be compared to Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran.

He said that while everything Wigneswaran says cannot be accepted, he has never called for attacks on the Sinhalese community.

However?Gnanasara Thero has been accused of making public statements calling for attacks on Muslims, the Minister said.

The BBS says Gnanasara Thero is in hiding?as there is an alleged threat to his life.

The Police had said two weeks ago that?Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero is to be arrested for obstructing Police duty and over several other complaints.

A court order had been obtained preventing the controversial monk from leaving the country. (Colombo Gazette)

Number of coronavirus patients in Sri Lanka continues to rise

The number of coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka continued to rise today. The Ministry of Health said that 10 new coronavirus patients were detected in Sri Lanka today (Monday). As of today the number of coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka rose to 991. There are 423 active coronavirus patients in Sri Lanka as of today. Meanwhile, 559 patients who had contracted the virus have recovered and have been discharged from hospital. (Colombo Gazette)
