EPDP member suspended

The EPDP led by Minister Douglas Devananda has suspended the membership of EPDP Jaffna Municipal Council member S. Vijayakanth with immediate effect.
Vijayakanth was suspended after he was arrested by the police yesterday over his alleged involvement in criminal activities in Jaffna.
The EPDP said that Vijayakanth was suspended from the party in order to ensure investigations into the allegations against him are conducted fairly.
The political party also said that all activities scheduled by Vijayakanth have also been suspended. (Colombo Gazette)

Covid death toll in Sri Lanka crosses the 2000 mark

The coronavirus death toll in Sri Lanka crossed the 2000 mark today. The Ministry of Health said that another 101 deaths linked to the virus was confirmed today. This is the highest number of deaths confirmed in a day. The death toll from the virus has now reached 2011 in Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
