The police headquarters has ordered the transfer of 17 policemen over an assault on a group of people in the Dikwella area early this morning. A protest was staged in the?Dikwella town this morning over the assault with area residents attempting to go towards the Dikwella police station. Two kids killed in accident

Two children were killed and their mother sustained injuries following an accident in Rambukkana today. The police said that a private bus operating between Kegalle and?Rambukkana veered off the road and crashed into them while they were on the side of the road. A 3 year old girl and a 10 year old boy were killed in the accident, the police media unit said. The mother has been admitted to the Kegalle hospital for treatment. Indians arrested with Gold

Two Indians were arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport today with gold slabs in their possession. According to the airport customs unit, the Indians had 32 Gold slabs in their possession. The gold slabs were worth more than Rs. 800,000 and were concealed in their travelling bags. Both Indians were fined Rs. 5000 each and released while the gold slabs were seized. (Colombo Gazette)
