No confidence on Dilan fails

The no confidence motion against Foreign Employment Minister Dilan Perera was defeated in Parliament today.
The motion moved by the opposition UNP had only 32 votes in favor and 136 against it.
The motion was moved in light of the government failing to secure the release of Sri Lankan maid Rizana Nafeek who was executed in Saudi Arabia.
Speaking during the debate on the no confidence motion, the government said that the Minister had the full backing of the?government.
Minister Basil Rajapaksa said that the no confidence motion should be a “confidence motion” as Perera had?fulfilled?his duties in his Ministry?successfully.
Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said that there was a division in the?opposition as all the opposition political parties did not support the motion.
