Father kills kids, commits suicide

A father killed his two children and then?committed?suicide in Kandy today, the police media unit said.
The police said that the father had given his two children poison following a personal?dispute?at home and killed himself.
The incident had been reported to the police at round 8.30 in the night from the house located at Peradeniya road in Kandy.
One child was aged eight and the other child aged four while the father was aged 44, the police media unit said.
Investigations into the incident are underway. (Colombo Gazette)

Lanka bound piped-fish siezed

India for solution on fishing issue

India wants a permanent solution to the conflict between fishermen in Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu. India?s Union Shipping Minister G.K.Vasan said he hopes a solution can be found through talks between the fishermen of both the countries. Stranded fishermen saved

The navy rescued a group of fishermen who were stranded in rough seas last night, a navy spokesman said today. Navy spokesman Kosala Warnakulasuriya said that nine fishermen who had gone fishing were stranded after their fishing boat had some trouble in the southern seas. A navy craft was sent out to sea to rescue the fishermen and bring them ashore. The navy spokesman said that all nine fishermen were rescued and brought ashore to Galle by this morning.
