TNA to decide on US visit

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) is to meet this week and discuss a proposed visit to the United States (US) early this year, reports said.
According to the Jaffna media, TNA leader R. Sampanthan, who has been?overseas?for medical treatment, is due back in the country this week.
On his return he is scheduled to attend a?function?in Trincomalee on Thursday and then discuss the visit to the US.
The State Department had reportedly invited the TNA to?Washington for talks on the political solution and the state of the?resettlement of the war displaced.
A TNA delegation had last visited the US in 2011 on an invitation extended by US Under Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert Blake.
During that visit the TNA had briefed US officials on talks held so far between the TNA and the government.

SriLankan Airlines flight arrives with 260 Sri Lankans from Russia

A SriLankan Airlines flight arrived late this evening with 260 Sri Lankans from Russia. Sri Lanka had taken steps to bring back students stuck in Russia and surrounding areas. Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said this week that Sri Lankans stranded in several countries are expected to be brought back over the next few days. Case into FR petitions filed against polls date postponed till Tuesday
