Several displaced by rain

Several people were displaced last night by heavy rain experienced in some parts of the country, the police media unit said. The police said that in Dimbulupathana, Mayfield Estate 238 people were displaced and shifted to temporary shelters. Ranil says 17A more important

Stranded fishermen saved

The navy rescued a group of fishermen who were stranded in rough seas last night, a navy spokesman said today. Navy spokesman Kosala Warnakulasuriya said that nine fishermen who had gone fishing were stranded after their fishing boat had some trouble in the southern seas. A navy craft was sent out to sea to rescue the fishermen and bring them ashore. The navy spokesman said that all nine fishermen were rescued and brought ashore to Galle by this morning.
