The police said that four people were arrested today over the murder of a woman and her daughter in Kahawatte earlier this year.

A woman, 63 year old L.A. Premawathi, and her 33 year old daughter were found dead in their house at Kahawatte on July 19.

Initially the police received information that a house in the area had caught fire and when the police went to investigate they found the two burnt bodies inside.

The incident sent shockwaves in the area which was already reeling from a spate of similar murders over the past few years.

The police had offered a Rs. 1 million reward for any information which could lead to a breakthrough over the investigations into the double murder in Kahawatte. (Colombo Gazette)
