CDF member commits suicide

A Civil Defence Force (CDF) member committed suicide by shooting himself in Ampara early this morning, the police media unit said.

The police said that the CDF member was on duty in Mahaoya at the time he shot himself using his own weapon.

The victim is a father of two and a resident of the area.

A special investigation has been launched into the incident, the police media unit added.

The Magisterial inquiry into the incident will be conducted this morning.

Suspect arrested over harassment of tourist in Mirissa

The Police have arrested a suspect over the harassment of a tourist in Mirissa, the Tourist Police said in a statement. OIC Police Tourist Division, Prabath Vidanagama said that the Kotiliwila police arrested the 36 years old suspect on the same day of the incident and later produced him before the magistrate and he was released on personal bail of LKR 200,000.
